From my boyhood days of reading the Encyclopedia Brown series and The Chronicles of Narnia, books have always been a part of my life. They hold the power to stop time as I enter a whole new world.
My mother switched the lights off. I knew she expected me to close my eyes and drift off to sleep. Instead, I pulled the quilt over my head so the glow of my reading light wouldn’t filter out the door.
Choosing five books that changed my life ranks up there with the challenge of choosing one book as my all-time favorite. I love books, so much so I don’t believe in getting rid of books—ever. I tried once.
Books have always been places of safety for me, places where I can try out what it’s like to be someone else for a time, or go anywhere in the world, or open my heart to new ways of thinking.
My people are discovering that the God of the Bible — the God of Israel — really does love us, and really did keep His promises, and really did send the Messiah, and that He really wants to forgive our sins and save
