Sacred Marriage: What If God Designed Marriage to Make Us Holy More Than to Make Us Happy? by Gary Thomas
I am getting married in July and am reading several books about relational wholeness. Sacred Marriage by Gary Thomas is one of my favorites. Thomas combines “insights from Scripture, church history, time tested wisdom from Christian classics, and examples from today’s marriages” to create a fine balance between theology and lifestyle. My fiancé and I are growing together as we discuss each chapter in depth. It’s a must-read for every engaged couple!

Alexander Hamilton by Ron Chernow
I received this book as a gift for Father’s Day last year and have been reading it on and off since then. After seeing the well-publicized musical that is based on this biography I have finally decided to commit to finishing it this month. Alexander Hamilton is an often overlooked founding father, but his contribution to the way our country runs today is undeniable. Ron Chernow’s writing is very engaging and gives a true picture of the good and bad of George Washington’s right hand man, Hamilton.

Life of the Beloved by Henri J. M. Nouwen
This book was a gift from my mother and she considers it one of the most influential books to her faith. Life of the Beloved is a letter from Nouwen to one of his dear unbelieving friends. In it he lays out what it means to be the beloved of Christ and how that changes the way we understand ourselves, our purpose, and those around us. I’ve read a number of Nouwen’s books, but the uniqueness of this one is the conversational tone that paints a picture of life with Christ in all the beauty of the intimacy therein.
