You are the light of the world—like a city on a hilltop that cannot be hidden. –Matthew 5:14
Read: Leviticus 24:1-4
Darkness can be scary. It’s hard to go anywhere confidently when you can’t see very well. In Moses and Aaron’s day, God commanded the priests to keep the lampstand in the Tabernacle burning continually—night and day. God was and is the light for his people.
Guess what? Because you believe in Jesus and live for God, you are a light in the dark world! How? Well, Jesus is the light of the world. When we believe in Jesus, he lives in us through the Holy Spirit and shines his light through us. God wants us to shine his light in the darkness so everyone can come to know him. We should love others and shine God’s light in a world filled with darkness and pain.
The challenge is to keep your light shining. Don’t be discouraged or embarrassed to shine God’s light. You can’t share the message of God’s love if your God-light is hidden away. Be brave. Let your light shine!
Dear God, Please help me have the courage to let my light shine brightly, no matter what is going on around me. I want to be a light for you. In Jesus’ name, Amen
