There is no law against these things!&#8221; Galatians 5:22-23, NLT.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"alignleft size-large is-resized\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"http:\/\/wpmu.azurewebsites.net\/nlt\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/6\/2020\/03\/alex-ronsdorf-174075-unsplash-1024x684.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-4368\" width=\"262\" height=\"175\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Throughout this letter to the Galatians, Paul has been arguing that trying to obey the Jewish Law only leads to slavery (Galatians 4:8-31). But Christ has set us free (5:1), and the way to maintain that freedom is to \u201clet the Holy Spirit guide [our] lives\u201d (5:16), to be \u201cdirected by the Spirit\u201d (5:18), and to \u201cfollow the Spirit\u2019s leading in every part of our lives\u201d (5:25). After all, it was the Holy Spirit, not religious rules, that brought us to Christ, and it is he who helps us see God as our \u201cAbba\u201d\u2014our daddy (4:6).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"alignright size-large is-resized\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/wpmu3.northcentralus.cloudapp.azure.com\/nlt\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/6\/2020\/03\/jennifer-pallian-146575-unsplash-819x1024.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-4369\" width=\"233\" height=\"292\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>That is why, no matter what experiences of the Spirit we may have had, we all need to \u201cbe filled with the Holy Spirit\u201d\u2014literally, to \u201cgo on being filled with the Spirit\u201d (Ephesians 5:18). We need to \u201clet the Holy Spirit guide [our] lives\u201d (Galatians 5:16)\u2014that is, to follow his leadings and be filled with his power. As we do, his fruit grows in us\u2014\u201clove, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control\u201d (5:22-23). These are not his fruits (plural), but his fruit (singular); it is as if nine different fruits were all found on one tree. All of them (not just those we like or find easy) should be growing in us.
