If you have children, think of how your heart swells with gladness and joy, when you see one of them finally grasping and then putting into practice on their own, a concept or an activity that you have been teaching them and reiterating for a period of time.
This is what I think blesses The Lord.

We need to be careful were not just singing or saying words, they need to be in line with scripture. It has never seemed right to say, “I bless you God”, who am I that can bless the King of the universe? I can (must) praise Him, exalt Him, love Him, worship Him, but I (being a a fleshly, imperfect man) have never felt right saying I bless God. Not to judge, just my perspective.

And thanks to the writer for answering it with gathered Bible passages. I, too, believe that God Blesses us, and we praise Him, and His Holy Name. We share our blessing with others, and praise God. I would prefer the song lyrics to say, “Bless my soul oh Lord, oh my Lord. Worship his Holy Name.” That’s just my opinion. I understand that no harm is intended by those who say, “Bless the Lord.” I would just prefer, “Thank the Lord,” instead. I’m sure some will consider this knit-picking, but I think it’s important.
