Dee Henderson
It’s a hit! Dee Henderson, author of more than thirteen best-selling novels including the acclaimed O’Malley and Uncommon Heroes series, has another winner with The Witness, her latest romantic suspense novel freshly released from Tyndale.
The Witness tracks the adventures of Amanda (Amy) Griffin, who has been on the run for years after witnessing a murder. Her sisters think she is dead, and Amy has wanted it that way for their own good. Now, however, long-buried family secrets have placed her sisters in great danger, and Amy must come out of hiding to help them. But who will help Amy? Could it be Luke Granger, the police chief who makes it his personal mission to keep her safe? And just as Amy starts getting her life back, will she risk losing her heart? Read The Witness and find out!
While The Witness is a stand-alone title, Dee has not ruled out the possibility of writing a sequel someday. “There are some great characters in this book whose stories have a second chapter that still needs told,” she says. “If that book will be written depends on a couple things—do I have an idea for a story which I just have to write, and based on the fan mail, what would readers like?”
Dee is clearly a leader in romantic suspense fiction. Her books have won or been nominated for the RWA’s RITA Award, the Christy Award, the ECPA Gold Medallion, and others. How did she get her start?
“I write stories because it was what I considered fun back when I was five or six and could hold a crayon,” Dee recalls. That initial enthusiasm hasn’t abated. “I write stories because I love to write stories; there’s no need for anyone to prompt me to do this.”
As with her other best-selling books, in The Witness Dee carries the romantic suspense novel to a new level by revealing her characters’ faith—or lack thereof. “My characters are no different than real people,” she explains. “Some days you don’t think much about God, other times you do. I need [my characters] to be living, breathing, three-dimensional characters, so I talk about anything that is relevant to them—their families, their friends, their jobs, what has happened in their past, and what role God plays in their lives.”
