Tyndale’s 2006 publishing year starts out with a splash with Rene Gutteridge’s suspense-filled adventure Storm Surge, releasing this month.

Readers (or should we say “survivors”) of The Splitting Storm and Storm Gathering are primed for this new story. FBI Agent Mick Kline thinks he had put his past behind him, including a decade-old murder case in which he had once been the prime suspect. But when mysterious letters start arriving at his house, Mick finds himself drawn back into this supposedly solved case. Mick’s investigation leads him to a man on death row for a crime he claims he didn’t commit. It’s a race against time as Mick rushes to stop a murderer before he kills again.

“If you’ve read The Splitting Storm and Storm Gathering, all your questions will be answered in Storm Surge,” Rene promises. “I’m so excited for it to come out, as I know readers have been waiting to find out if Mick finds love and who Shep Crawford really is.”

Even though Storm Surge is a sequel, readers who have not yet read the previous books can still understand and enjoy it. The series is designed to be read in any order. Storm Surge is the third and final book in the series. What’s up next for Rene?

“My next project in the works is a comedy for Women of Faith called My Life as a Doormat. It’s about a conflict-phobic playwright.” Rene herself is a playwright, active for many years in church drama.

As a mom with young children at home, how does Rene find time to write?

“I have to have a really flexible schedule, as with small children at home, it’s impossible to keep a really good schedule. However, one child is in kindergarten and the other in preschool, so I am finally managing to have a bit of a regular schedule these days . . . except now I’ve got winter break!” Rene laughs. “But I’ve been writing since my son was five weeks old, so I’ve just learned to make the time to write, and to be flexible. My best writing time is in the morning. I can write twice as much in half the time.”

We asked Rene what she thinks God has in store for her in 2006. “2005 was a really difficult year for our family,” she shares. “We had a lot of medical issues to deal with, all of us. We’re looking forward to 2005 being over with and starting 2006. But in the midst of all the struggles, there were plenty of blessings and lots and lots of spiritual growth!”

When asked if she has any special goals for the new year, Rene sighs. “Oh, boy. I can’t really say. Maybe we’ll take 2006 as it comes! We always accept prayers.”

Please pray for Rene and her family as they ride out these personal storms. And be sure to enjoy Storm Surge. It will have you hanging on for dear life!
